Girls uncovered

Boonika, the platform for visual dialogue, is presenting the works of Toni Mažuranić at the exhibition ‘Girls Uncovered’. The collected paintings were created between 2012 and 2016 while their mutual theme is the manipulation of female perception. The passive-aggressive fashion and lifestyle industry is ruthlessly creating a dystopian world in which superficiality is the means to perfection. The tragedy turns comedic when one is faced with what people are prepared to endure in order to reach a unsustainable Dorian Grey status quo, transforming themselves into deformed trophies of human vanity. The artist’s collage neorealism is both Dr. Fashionstein, assembling ideal segments into a far from ideal whole, and the dissecting scalpel which exposes an egomaniacal epidemic, revealing mass hysteria hidden beneath plastic masks of surgical interventions and make up. Her style brings together the approach of aesthetic terrorist Winston Smith and photorealist Chuck Close for the purpose of delivering social critique of a society overrun by botox, silicone and Q10 junkies.
